In January 2024, the average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $2,754 per ton, increasing by 2.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 22% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,281 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to January 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($3,287 per ton), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($1,461 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mozambique (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
