The average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $3,362 per ton in December 2022, waning by -12% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to December 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 43% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,236 per ton. From March 2022 to December 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($6,012 per ton), while the price for China ($1,935 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $10,250 per ton in December 2022, waning by -59.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 627% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $54,628 per ton. From May 2022 to December 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Yemen ($5,458 per ton) and Somalia ($4,358 per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($4,038 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($4,358 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last three years.
