Price for Fish; Live, Ornamental, Freshwater in China (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average fish; live, ornamental, freshwater import price amounted to $94,912 per ton, with an increase of 2.9% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a resilient increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +6.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, fish; live, ornamental, freshwater import price increased by +3.3% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 39% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $114K per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($183K per ton), while the price for Japan ($13,824 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In June 2023, the average fish; live, ornamental, freshwater export price amounted to $9,388 per ton, rising by 13% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 an increase of 56% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $28,340 per ton. From August 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($55,374 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($1,958 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Fish; Live, Ornamental, Freshwater in China

For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in supplies from abroad of fish; live, ornamental, freshwater, which increased by 43% to 305 tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fish; live, ornamental, freshwater imports skyrocketed to $17M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep reduction.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of fish; live, ornamental, freshwater, when their volume increased by 7% to 231 tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic downturn.

In value terms, fish; live, ornamental, freshwater exports dropped rapidly to $3.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 9.6%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $4.6M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
