Price for Fish Fat and Oil in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023

The average fish fat and oil import price stood at $6,120 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 31% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed moderate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 79% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $6,496 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($11,112 per ton), while the price for Norway ($2,608 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average fish fat and oil export price amounted to $3,522 per ton, growing by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $4,290 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($8,409 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($2,574 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Fish Fat and Oil in the Netherlands

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of fish fats and oils decreased by -50.2% to 20K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 41K tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, fish fat and oil imports contracted dramatically to $68M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 61%.

In value terms, fish fat and oil exports declined remarkably to $53M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 85% against the previous year.
