Price for Dried and Dehydrated Food in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average dried and dehydrated food import price stood at $4,900 per ton in August 2023, rising by 8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous month. The import price peaked in August 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($12,248 per ton), while the price for Honduras ($858 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Dried and Dehydrated Food in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average dried and dehydrated food export price amounted to $3,107 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 24% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $3,292 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,564 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,593 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Dried and Dehydrated Food in the United States
For the fourth consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in overseas purchases of dried and dehydrated food, which increased by 13% to 241K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dried and dehydrated food imports surged to $998M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
