Price for Diols and Polyhydric Alcohols in Thailand (CIF) - 2022

The average diols and polyhydric alcohols import price stood at $2,643 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, diols and polyhydric alcohols import price increased by +72.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 51% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,711 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($1,865 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Diols and Polyhydric Alcohols in Thailand (FOB) - 2023

The average diols and polyhydric alcohols export price stood at $1,296 per ton in September 2023, rising by 23% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The export price peaked at $4,203 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($4,753 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($436 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Diols and Polyhydric Alcohols in Thailand

In 2022, purchases abroad of diols and polyhydric alcohols (excluding ethylene glycol and propylene glycol, d-glucitol) decreased by -21.8% to 31K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +18.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 39K tons, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, diols and polyhydric alcohols imports dropped to $82M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 100%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $91M, and then reduced in the following year.

Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 12%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3K tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, diols and polyhydric alcohols exports expanded slightly to $9.8M in 2022.
