Price for Buckwheat, Millet and Canary Seed; Other Cereals in Turkey (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses stood at $557 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 62% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to December 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Malta ($930 per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($159 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iran (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average import price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses amounted to $308 per ton, falling by -21.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 66% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $656 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,787 per ton), while the price for Iran ($153 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Turkey recorded growth in overseas shipments of buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses, which increased by 39% to 27K tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 62%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses soared to $9.8M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
