In November 2023, the average import price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses amounted to $992 per ton, picking up by 6.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 46% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,089 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,221 per ton), while the price for Russia ($574 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses amounted to $1,864 per ton, growing by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 202%. The export price peaked at $2,886 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($4,567 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($1,006 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mongolia (+61.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
