Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in India (CIF) - 2023
The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $843 per ton in May 2023, rising by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,068 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to May 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($1,065 per ton), while the price for Iran ($431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In May 2023, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $1,767 per ton, falling by -5.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 121% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,887 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to May 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bhutan ($1,932 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($572 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nepal (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in India
In 2022, apples, pears and quinces; fresh imports into India declined to 425K tons, with a decrease of -7.9% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 461K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh imports dropped to $347M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 82%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $404M, and then contracted in the following year.
