In November 2023, the average export price for aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows amounted to $4,934 per ton, rising by 2.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.8% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5,843 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In November 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Cyprus ($5,820 per ton) and Romania ($5,531 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($4,034 per ton) and Belgium ($4,202 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average import price for aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows amounted to $5,465 per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows increased by +35.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 30%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($8,925 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($4,128 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Aluminium; Alloys, Bars, Rods and Profiles, Other than Hollow in Greece
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows, when their volume decreased by -10.4% to 78K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 88K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, exports of aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows soared to $437M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
