Price for Flour, Meal, and Flakes of Potatoes in Turkey (CIF) - 2024

In July 2023, the average import price for flour, meal, and flakes of potatoeses amounted to $2,325 per ton, flattening at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 4.2% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,363 per ton. From April 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,617 per ton), while the price for Iran ($1,990 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for flour, meal, and flakes of potatoeses amounted to $1,650 per ton, declining by -44.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 228%. The export price peaked at $5,313 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($2,658 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,519 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Flour, Meal, and Flakes of Potatoes in Turkey

For the fourth consecutive year, Turkey recorded growth in purchases abroad of flour, meal, and flakes of potatoeses, which increased by 13% to 5K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of flour, meal, and flakes of potatoeses surged to $8M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +24.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +93.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
