Preserved Sauerkraut Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average preserved sauerkraut import price stood at $1,818 per ton in October 2023, dropping by -5.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 3.9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,929 per ton in September 2023, and then shrank in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Greece ($2,501 per ton), while the price for China ($1,120 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average preserved sauerkraut export price stood at $1,603 per ton in October 2023, growing by 1.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.1% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,675 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Panama ($2,212 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($1,209 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Preserved Sauerkraut Imports in the United States

In 2022, the amount of preserved sauerkraut imported into the United States rose rapidly to 405K tons, increasing by 11% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut imports rose markedly to $747M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, shipments abroad of preserved sauerkraut increased by 5.7% to 63K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable decline.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut exports rose remarkably to $97M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
