China Polymers Of Ethylene In Primary Forms Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the polymers of ethylene in primary forms price amounted to $2,329 per ton (FOB, China), with an increase of 3.7% against the previous month. Over the last eight-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 an increase of 8.5% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,508 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sudan ($3,309 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($1,261 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2022, shipments abroad of polymers of ethylene in primary forms (excluding polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers) increased by 3.3% to 38K tons, rising for the second month in a row after two months of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 43% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 51K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of polymers of ethylene in primary forms (excluding polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers) expanded rapidly to $88M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 50% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at 112K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia (2.7K tons), India (2.5K tons) and Vietnam (2K tons) were the main destinations of exports of polymers of ethylene in primary forms (excluding polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers) from China, with a combined 19% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Nigeria, the United States, Turkey, South Korea, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Tanzania, Thailand, Sudan and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 38%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for polymers of ethylene in primary forms exported from China were Russia ($8.5M), Vietnam ($5.2M) and Nigeria ($4.6M), together accounting for 21% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, India, Turkey, Sudan, Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Thailand, Brazil and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +11.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
