Olive Price in Greece (FOB) - 2023

In October 2023, the average olive export price amounted to $2,551 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, export price indicated moderate growth from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, olive export price increased by +50.9% against February 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,586 per ton in September 2023, and then contracted modestly in the following month.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,501 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany amounted to $2,219 per ton.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+3.1%).

Olive Price in Greece (CIF) - 2022

The average olive import price stood at $855 per ton in 2022, which is down by -30.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 61%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,227 per ton, and then fell markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($5,423 per ton), while the price for Albania ($820 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+16.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Olive Exports in Greece

In 2022, overseas shipments of olives decreased by -54.9% to 2.4K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports faced a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 2.2%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 5.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, olive exports shrank remarkably to $4.8M in 2022. In general, exports showed a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $12M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
