Non-Liquid Margarine Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average non-liquid margarine export price amounted to $1,800 per ton, with an increase of 2.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 5.8% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,972 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($3,603 per ton), while the average price for exports to Madagascar ($834 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zimbabwe (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average non-liquid margarine import price stood at $1,417 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 108%. The import price peaked at $2,319 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
