Non-Liquid Margarine Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average non-liquid margarine export price amounted to $2,928 per ton, flattening at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 33%. The export price peaked at $2,937 per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($5,204 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malta ($2,123 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average non-liquid margarine import price amounted to $1,419 per ton, with an increase of 2.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 43% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,039 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($2,138 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($1,302 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Non-Liquid Margarine Exports in Australia

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of non-liquid margarine, when their volume increased by 1.5% to 13K tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a perceptible slump.

In value terms, non-liquid margarine exports amounted to $38M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Non-Liquid Margarine Imports in Australia

For the fourth consecutive year, Australia recorded growth in overseas purchases of non-liquid margarine, which increased by 19% to 8.4K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +27.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +106.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-liquid margarine imports skyrocketed to $14M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
