Milled Rice Price in Ukraine (CIF) - 2023
The average milled rice import price stood at $735 per ton in May 2023, rising by 6.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 15% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,005 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to May 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($2,412 per ton), while the price for India ($653 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Milled Rice Price in Ukraine (FOB) - 2022
The average milled rice export price stood at $1,028 per ton in 2022, increasing by 36% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, milled rice export price increased by +99.3% against 2017 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($1,620 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($770 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Milled Rice Imports in Ukraine
In 2022, approx. 72K tons of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice were imported into Ukraine; growing by 8.7% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 104K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, milled rice imports skyrocketed to $60M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +23.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +87.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Milled rice exports from Ukraine shrank notably to 842 tons in 2022, reducing by -86.1% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a precipitous curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 6K tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
