Milled Rice Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average milled rice export price amounted to $560 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 7.5% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $564 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($1,093 per ton), while the average price for exports to Madagascar ($300 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Milled Rice Price in India (CIF) - 2023
The average milled rice import price stood at $1,063 per ton in June 2023, surging by 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated pronounced growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, milled rice import price increased by +79.4% against February 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 62% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,319 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1,087 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($912 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Milled Rice Exports in India
For the fourth consecutive year, India recorded growth in shipments abroad of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice, which increased by 6.3% to 18M tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +24.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +92.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 40%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, milled rice exports amounted to $9.4B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, milled rice imports surged to $7.1M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage.
