Milled Rice Price in Ecuador (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average milled rice export price amounted to $704 per ton, with an increase of 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 20%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,095 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($907 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala ($624 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guatemala (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average milled rice import price stood at $412 per ton in 2022, which is down by -2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $564 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($769 per ton), while the price for Peru ($125 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-12.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Milled Rice Exports in Ecuador

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice, when their volume decreased by -2.4% to 532 tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 5.2% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 546 tons, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, milled rice exports shrank to $375K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 2%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $378K, leveling off in the following year.

Milled Rice Imports in Ecuador

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice decreased by -12.8% to 1.3K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.5K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, milled rice imports declined to $535K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 43%.
