Meat Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average meat export price amounted to $5,741 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, meat export price increased by +40.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 40%. The export price peaked at $5,798 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,529 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($1,723 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Meat Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average meat import price amounted to $2,608 per ton, picking up by 5.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,402 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($2,634 per ton), while the price for the United States totaled $2,602 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-0.4%).

Meat Exports in Mexico

In 2022, shipments abroad of meat decreased by -2.1% to 489K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 599K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, meat exports fell slightly to $2.8B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 21%.

Meat Imports in Mexico

In 2022, the amount of meat imported into Mexico surged to 1.3M tons, picking up by 27% compared with the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, meat imports surged to $3.4B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.3% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
