Lysine Price in the UK (CIF) - 2022

The average lysine import price stood at $2,358 per ton in 2022, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,411 per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,837 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,391 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lysine Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022

The average lysine export price stood at $3,764 per ton in 2022, growing by 105% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a noticeable expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($48,015 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($1,586 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Lysine Imports in the UK

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of lysine and its esters, and salts thereof, when their volume increased by 18% to 42K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn.

In value terms, lysine imports skyrocketed to $99M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, shipments abroad of lysine and its esters, and salts thereof decreased by -58.3% to 879 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports faced a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 5.3%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lysine exports fell to $3.3M in 2022. In general, exports faced a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 23% against the previous year.
