Lysine Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average lysine import price amounted to $1,510 per ton, reducing by -9.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 6.6% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,275 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($2,492 per ton), while the price for China ($1,282 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Lysine Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average lysine export price amounted to $1,571 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.4% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,267 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($1,656 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania amounted to $1,551 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Lysine Imports in Hungary
In 2022, the amount of lysine and its esters, and salts thereof imported into Hungary shrank to 14K tons, which is down by -10.5% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 15K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, lysine imports expanded significantly to $29M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Lysine Exports in Hungary
In 2022, shipments abroad of lysine and its esters, and salts thereof decreased by -6.7% to 1.4K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 272% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lysine exports surged to $3.6M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 277% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
