Liquefied Propane Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average liquefied propane import price amounted to $647 per ton, which is down by -2.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 13% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $806 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($665 per ton), while the price for Norway ($579 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average liquefied propane export price amounted to $816 per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $990 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,231 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($722 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Liquefied Propane Imports in Germany

In 2022, approx. 909K tons of liquefied propanes were imported into Germany; falling by -9.7% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 8.9%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1M tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, liquefied propane imports expanded rapidly to $730M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Liquefied Propane Exports in Germany

For the fourth consecutive year, Germany recorded growth in overseas shipments of liquefied propanes, which increased by 58% to 137K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, liquefied propane exports surged to $112M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
