Linseed Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average linseed import price amounted to $455 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $646 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($639 per ton), while the price for Russia ($445 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Linseed Price in China (FOB) - 2022
The average linseed export price stood at $1,793 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($2,388 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($1,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Linseed Imports in China
In 2022, the amount of linseed imported into China skyrocketed to 615K tons, rising by 45% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.0% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, linseed imports soared to $405M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 54%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
