Lettuce and Chicory Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
The average lettuce and chicory import price stood at $989 per ton in January 2022, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2021 when the average import price increased by 23% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,049 per ton. From September 2021 to January 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($1,311 per ton), while the price for China ($810 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lettuce and Chicory Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average lettuce and chicory export price stood at $985 per ton in 2022, jumping by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 88% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,220 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($1,969 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($679 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+254.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Lettuce and Chicory Imports in Russia
In 2022, lettuce and chicory imports into Russia shrank rapidly to 8.4K tons, declining by -87.4% on the previous year. In general, imports saw a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 67K tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
In value terms, lettuce and chicory imports fell rapidly to $9M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 5.9%.

Lettuce and Chicory Exports in Russia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of lettuce and chicory, when their volume decreased by -69.6% to 252 tons. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 78% against the previous year.
