Inedible Fish Products Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023

The average inedible fish products import price stood at $1,158 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -42.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 510% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,221 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,708 per ton), while the price for Fiji ($406 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Inedible Fish Products Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

The average inedible fish products export price stood at $1,590 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,316 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cook Islands ($2,108 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($947 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Inedible Fish Products Imports in New Zealand

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of inedible fish products, when their volume decreased by -28.5% to 1.8K tons. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 54% against the previous year.

In value terms, inedible fish products imports declined remarkably to $2.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 31%.
