Inedible Fish Products Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

In May 2023, the average inedible fish products import price amounted to $801 per ton, with an increase of 6.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 48% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,943 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to May 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($1,333 per ton), while the price for Japan ($659 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Inedible Fish Products Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average inedible fish products export price stood at $936 per ton in 2022, reducing by -44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,864 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Hong Kong SAR.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +22.4% per year.

Inedible Fish Products Imports in Australia

For the third consecutive year, Australia recorded decline in overseas purchases of inedible fish products, which decreased by -67.7% to 7.7K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic slump. The smallest decline of -2.8% was in 2021.

In value terms, inedible fish products imports dropped rapidly to $10M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 10%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $24M, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

Inedible Fish Products Exports in Australia

Inedible fish products exports from Australia soared to 314 tons in 2022, with an increase of 17% against 2021 figures. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, inedible fish products exports contracted sharply to $294K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year.
