Frozen Yellowfin Tuna Price in Peru (CIF) - 2021
The average frozen yellowfin tuna import price stood at $1,637 per ton in March 2020, growing by 46% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a buoyant increase from January 2020 to March 2020: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +10.0% over the last two-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2020 figures, frozen yellowfin tuna import price increased by +45.5% against February 2020 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2020, the country with the highest price was China ($7,514 per ton), while the price for Ecuador amounted to $1,356 per ton.
From January 2020 to March 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Yellowfin Tuna Price in Peru (FOB) - 2022
The average frozen yellowfin tuna export price stood at $2,143 per ton in 2022, increasing by 4.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,744 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($3,215 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($1,087 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Frozen Yellowfin Tuna Imports in Peru
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of frozen yellowfin tuna, when their volume increased by 219% to 1.2K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a precipitous contraction.
In value terms, frozen yellowfin tuna imports surged to $1.6M in 2022. In general, imports, however, faced a sharp decline.

In 2022, frozen yellowfin tuna exports from Peru reduced to 112 tons, with a decrease of -14.6% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 132 tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, frozen yellowfin tuna exports declined to $241K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $269K, and then contracted in the following year.
