Fresh Chicken Cut Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average fresh chicken cut export price amounted to $1,377 per ton, picking up by 4.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,442 per ton in June 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($3,109 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico totaled $1,021 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+0.1%).

In September 2023, the average fresh chicken cut import price amounted to $5,421 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 5.9% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,799 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Canada.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Canada amounted to -0.3% per month.
Fresh Chicken Cut Exports in the United States
In 2022, overseas shipments of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken decreased by -0.5% to 624K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 13%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 633K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fresh chicken cut exports skyrocketed to $900M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
