Dry Vegetable Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average dry vegetable import price stood at $3,900 per ton in September 2023, reducing by -9.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $4,315 per ton in August 2023, and then contracted in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($7,290 per ton), while the price for Honduras ($1,320 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Dry Vegetable Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average dry vegetable export price stood at $4,293 per ton in September 2023, leveling off at the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 40% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $6,095 per ton. From March 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($12,207 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($2,580 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+24.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Dry Vegetable Imports in the United States

In 2022, imports of dry vegetables into the United States expanded notably to 70K tons, growing by 12% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dry vegetable imports stood at $261M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Dry Vegetable Exports in the United States

In 2022, shipments abroad of dry vegetables decreased by -2.5% to 55K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -28.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 56%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 76K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dry vegetable exports expanded markedly to $233M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 14%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
