The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Japan (X tonnes), Canada (X tonnes) and Indonesia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of dried onion exports from the U.S., with a combined X% share of total exports. The UK, Mexico, Australia, Belgium, Thailand, Israel, the Philippines and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Thailand, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Canada ($X), Japan ($X) and Indonesia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for dried onion exported from the U.S. worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Australia, Mexico, Belgium, Thailand, the Philippines, Israel and Sweden, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Thailand recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average dried onion export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2020, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports decreased by -X% against 2018 indices.
