Dried Grapes Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022

The average dried grapes export price stood at $1,933 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 20%. The export price peaked at $2,643 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($3,074 per ton), while the average price for exports to Algeria ($838 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Dried Grapes Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

The average dried grapes import price stood at $588 per ton in 2022, declining by -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 158%. The import price peaked at $1,763 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($2,121 per ton), while the price for Namibia stood at $123 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Afghanistan (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Dried Grapes Exports in South Africa

In 2022, overseas shipments of dried grapes decreased by -11% to 57K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 37%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 65K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dried grapes exports shrank to $110M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 5.7% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $125M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
