Concrete Reinforcing Bar Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023

The average concrete reinforcing bar export price stood at $787 per ton in June 2023, falling by -6.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.1% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,152 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,062 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($632 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Concrete Reinforcing Bar Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average concrete reinforcing bar import price amounted to $1,037 per ton, surging by 7.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,191 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($22,897 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($775 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+29.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Concrete Reinforcing Bar Exports in Italy

In 2022, approx. 1.4M tons of concrete reinforcing bars were exported from Italy; which is down by -20.5% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 7.3% against the previous year.

In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar exports declined to $1.4B in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +66.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $1.5B, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Concrete reinforcing bar imports into Italy soared to 208K tons in 2022, growing by 31% on the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.1% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
