Commercial Printing Price in the Philippines (CIF) - 2022

The average commercial printing import price stood at $12,938 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -33.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 157%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $19,481 per ton in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($21,496 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($4,339 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+26.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average commercial printing export price amounted to $17,554 per ton, increasing by 32% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a slight increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, commercial printing export price increased by +39.5% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 38% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $22,225 per ton. From December 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($21,848 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($7,611 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cambodia (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Commercial Printing Imports in the Philippines

For the third year in a row, the Philippines recorded decline in supplies from abroad of commercial printing (except screen and books), which decreased by -0.5% to 18K tons in 2022. In general, imports faced a sharp descent.

In value terms, commercial printing imports shrank rapidly to $235M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 27%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $356M, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of commercial printing (except screen and books) decreased by -25.8% to 753 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 20%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.7K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, commercial printing exports dropped dramatically to $11M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 32%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $23M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
