Coffee Substitutes Price in Romania (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average coffee substitutes import price amounted to $4,391 per ton, falling by -32.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 19%. The import price peaked at $6,472 per ton in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($15,457 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,635 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average coffee substitutes export price amounted to $7,226 per ton, growing by 26% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, coffee substitutes export price decreased by -32.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 58%. The export price peaked at $10,744 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($11,951 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($5,269 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+18.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Coffee Substitutes Imports in Romania
In 2022, coffee substitutes imports into Romania surged to 131 tons, jumping by 43% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 57%.
In value terms, coffee substitutes imports shrank modestly to $575K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 85%.

Coffee Substitutes Exports in Romania
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of coffee substitutes containing coffee, when their volume decreased by -46.5% to 39 tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 222% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 73 tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, coffee substitutes exports shrank remarkably to $281K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 230% against the previous year.
