Cinnamon Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022

The average cinnamon export price stood at $5,308 per ton in December 2022, surging by 1.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.8% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,573 per ton. From February 2022 to December 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($7,513 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($3,774 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cinnamon Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average cinnamon import price amounted to $6,227 per ton, reducing by -3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $6,447 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($6,253 per ton), while the price for Indonesia totaled $6,081 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+15.3%).

Cinnamon Exports in Vietnam

In 2022, shipments abroad of cinnamon (canella) decreased by -6.5% to 49K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 53K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, cinnamon exports dropped slightly to $260M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year.

Cinnamon Imports in Vietnam

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of cinnamon (canella) decreased by -4.2% to 8.5K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 78%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 8.9K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, cinnamon imports declined to $53M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $58M, and then reduced in the following year.
