Chestnut Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average chestnut import price amounted to $2,800 per ton, with a decrease of -19.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 50%. The import price peaked at $3,478 per ton in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($3,487 per ton), while the price for North Macedonia ($689 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Albania (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chestnut Price in Serbia (FOB) - 2022

The average chestnut export price stood at $1,722 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price saw noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 57%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,722 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Hungary.

From 2013 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Hungary amounted to +10.9% per year.

Chestnut Imports in Serbia

In 2022, imports of chestnuts into Serbia amounted to 409 tons, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 49%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, chestnut imports contracted to $1.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 124% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.3M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Chestnut Exports in Serbia

In 2022, shipments abroad of chestnuts decreased by 0% to 3.5 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 7 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chestnut exports amounted to $6K in 2022. In general, exports showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 76%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $12K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
