Chestnut Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average chestnut export price stood at $1,802 per ton in December 2023, flattening at the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 when the average export price increased by 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,531 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,649 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($947 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chestnut Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average chestnut import price amounted to $2,282 per ton, falling by -6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,929 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,227 per ton), while the price for South Korea totaled $2,019 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+0.1%).
Chestnut Exports in China
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of chestnuts increased by 7.4% to 37K tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage.
In value terms, chestnut exports expanded significantly to $81M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease.

Chestnut Imports in China
Chestnut imports into China dropped to 5.3K tons in 2022, reducing by -11% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year.
In value terms, chestnut imports reduced rapidly to $12M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 74%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $15M, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
