Cherry Price in Kenya (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average cherry import price amounted to $3,489 per ton, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 47% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $5,436 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($4,279 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($1,473 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Cherry Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022

The average cherry export price stood at $1,778 per ton in 2022, rising by 32% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 116%. The export price peaked at $7,654 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Democratic Republic of the Congo.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Uganda amounted to -5.2% per year.

Cherry Imports in Kenya

In 2022, supplies from abroad of cherries decreased by -13.3% to 53 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 74% against the previous year.

In value terms, cherry imports fell to $186K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 110% against the previous year.

Cherry Exports in Kenya

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of cherries, when their volume decreased by -95.5% to 90 kg. In general, exports continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 81% against the previous year.

In value terms, cherry exports dropped rapidly to $160 in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a sharp contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 54%.
