Cheese Price in Israel (CIF) - 2022

The average cheese import price stood at $6,157 per ton in 2022, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $7,434 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Jordan ($6,430 per ton) and Italy ($6,394 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($5,673 per ton) and Spain ($5,712 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cheese Price in Israel (FOB) - 2023

In April 2023, the average cheese export price amounted to $6,325 per ton, with a decrease of -3.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 10% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,529 per ton, and then contracted in the following month.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to +0.1% per month.

Cheese Imports in Israel

In 2022, purchases abroad of cheese decreased by -2.7% to 16K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 16K tons, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, cheese imports amounted to $96M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, cheese exports dropped to $10M in 2022. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6.2% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $11M, and then dropped in the following year.
