The average cereals; rye, seed import price stood at $717 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 38% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,297 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($506 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, cereals; rye, seed export price decreased by -24.0% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 143% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,450 per ton. From May 2023 to June 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($1,853 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($641 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of cereals; rye, seeds decreased by -42.5% to 14K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a dramatic contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 6.5%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 31K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cereals; rye, seed imports dropped remarkably to $9.8M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 0.5%.
