Caramel Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average caramel import price amounted to $1,523 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,545 per ton in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($1,545 per ton) and China ($1,545 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1,456 per ton) and Malaysia ($1,473 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Caramel Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022
The average caramel export price stood at $1,705 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +6.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,708 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,707 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States amounted to $1,667 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+6.3%).
Caramel Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, approx. 26K tons of caramel were imported into Vietnam; falling by -7.2% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 28K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, caramel imports shrank to $40M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $43M, and then declined in the following year.

Caramel Exports in Vietnam
In 2022, overseas shipments of caramel decreased by -22.4% to 16K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 428%.
In value terms, caramel exports reduced rapidly to $27M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 456% against the previous year.
