Canned Vegetable Price in China (FOB) - 2023

The average canned vegetable export price stood at $1,610 per ton in September 2023, declining by -6.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 3.9% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,952 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($3,538 per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($605 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canned Vegetable Price in China (CIF) - 2023

The average canned vegetable import price stood at $3,007 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -25% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 45% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,009 per ton, and then dropped dramatically in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($8,784 per ton), while the price for Italy ($1,279 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canned Vegetable Exports in China

In 2022, the amount of canned vegetables exported from China rose modestly to 1.2M tons, growing by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild decline.

In value terms, canned vegetable exports expanded rapidly to $2.4B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Canned Vegetable Imports in China

In 2022, canned vegetable imports into China dropped to 17K tons, reducing by -6.5% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16%.

In value terms, canned vegetable imports rose significantly to $43M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
