Brown Rice Price in Slovakia (CIF) - 2022

The average brown rice import price stood at $2,488 per ton in 2022, picking up by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($6,810 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($1,124 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+28.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average brown rice export price amounted to $3,954 per ton, declining by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 205% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $4,359 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($4,583 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic stood at $1,156 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+13.1%).

Brown Rice Imports in Slovakia

In 2022, overseas purchases of husked (brown) rice decreased by -20.2% to 452 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 9.7% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 935 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, brown rice imports reached $1.1M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.3M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
