In 2022, the average brown rice import price amounted to $658 per ton, reducing by -24.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $871 per ton, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($865 per ton), while the price for India totaled $379 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average brown rice export price amounted to $709 per ton, shrinking by -31.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a notable expansion. For the third year in a row, Nepal recorded decline in supplies from abroad of husked (brown) rice, which decreased by -96.7% to 890 kg in 2022. In general, imports showed a dramatic descent. The smallest decline of -39.8% was in 2021.
In value terms, brown rice imports contracted notably to $586 in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a sharp slump. The smallest decline of -10.2% was in 2021.
