Biodiesel Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average biodiesel import price amounted to $1,802 per ton, picking up by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($1,894 per ton) and Canada ($1,863 per ton), while the price for Spain ($1,422 per ton) and Italy ($1,458 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Biodiesel Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average biodiesel export price stood at $1,779 per ton in August 2023, surging by 5.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 20% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,451 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,848 per ton), while the average price for exports to Peru amounted to $736 per ton.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (-1.5%).

Biodiesel Imports in the United States

Biodiesel imports into the United States soared to 785K tons in 2022, picking up by 16% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, biodiesel imports skyrocketed to $1.4B in 2022. Overall, imports posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 60%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

For the fourth consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in shipments abroad of biodiesel, which increased by 67% to 1.1M tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, biodiesel exports skyrocketed to $1.7B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
