Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eight years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, biodiesel exports rose rapidly to $X in 2020. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eight years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global exports reached the maximum in 2020 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2020, the Netherlands (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons) and China (X tons) represented the key exporters of biodiesel, together comprising X% of total exports. Argentina (X tons), France (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Italy (X tons), the U.S. (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Poland (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to biodiesel exports from the Netherlands stood at +X%. At the same time, China (+X%), France (+X%), Canada (+X%), Italy (+X%), Belgium (+X%), Spain (+X%), Poland (+X%), Bulgaria (+X%), Germany (+X%), Malaysia (+X%) and the U.S. (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2020. By contrast, Argentina (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2020, the share of the Netherlands, China, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy and Canada increased by +X%, +X%, +X%, +X%, +X%, +X% and +X% percentage points, while the U.S. (-X p.p.) and Argentina (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced. Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China, while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019, and then contracted in the following year.

Moreover, the UK emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2020. By contrast, Spain (-X%), Italy (-X%) and the U.S. (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+X p.p.), Belgium (+X p.p.), the UK (+X p.p.), France (+X p.p.) and Germany (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Italy, Spain and the U.S. saw its share reduced by -X%, -X% and -X% from 2012 to 2020, respectively. Import Prices by Country
The average biodiesel import price stood at $X per ton in 2020, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Sweden ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) and Bulgaria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy, while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
