Biodiesel Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average biodiesel export price amounted to $1,176 per ton, falling by -7.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 an increase of 4.2% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,866 per ton. From August 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,344 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malta ($1,152 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (-1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Biodiesel Price in China (CIF) - 2023
The average biodiesel import price stood at $1,083 per ton in June 2023, surging by 34% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The import price peaked at $1,749 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($3,120 per ton), while the price for the Philippines totaled $1,600 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Biodiesel Exports in China
For the fourth consecutive year, China recorded growth in overseas shipments of biodiesel, which increased by 39% to 1.8M tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, biodiesel exports soared to $3B in 2022. In general, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, biodiesel imports into China soared to 308K tons, with an increase of 75% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 113%.
