Bigeye Tuna Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2023
The average bigeye tuna import price stood at $1,975 per ton in July 2023, growing by 1.8% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in July 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Micronesia ($2,060 per ton) and Marshall Islands ($2,057 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,866 per ton) and Kiribati ($1,942 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Marshall Islands (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Bigeye Tuna Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average bigeye tuna export price amounted to $1,417 per ton, surging by 3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 47%. The export price peaked at $3,441 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($1,592 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines stood at $1,385 per ton.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Bigeye Tuna Imports in Thailand
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of bigeye tuna decreased by -24.4% to 24K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 87%.
In value terms, bigeye tuna imports dropped to $41M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +23.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +87.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 59% against the previous year.

Bigeye Tuna Exports in Thailand
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of bigeye tuna decreased by -22.1% to 1K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 1,199% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.3K tons, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
