Baby Food Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average baby food import price amounted to $4,340 per ton, surging by 41% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7,692 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($6,779 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,987 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Baby Food Price in Nigeria (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average baby food export price amounted to $2,597 per ton, rising by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 54% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $4,995 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Ghana.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Italy amounted to +10.7% per year.
Baby Food Imports in Nigeria
In 2022, supplies from abroad of food preparations for infants decreased by -39.4% to 16K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a sharp downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 5.9%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 104K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, baby food imports declined to $70M in 2022. In general, imports saw a sharp descent. The smallest decline of -7% was in 2020.

In general, exports saw a precipitous contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 229%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 331 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, baby food exports declined rapidly to $8.1K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a precipitous decline.
